Trevor Broussie, charged in connection with an alleged attack that left a police officer with an injured hand, was released on bail Tuesday.
Broussie is facing charges for assault on a police officer and attempting to overcome resistance through choking. The charges stem from an altercation this past Saturday.
According to police, the officer was responding to a report of an attempted sexual assault at a Prince Albert hotel, where he tried to arrest Broussie. Broussie allegedly resisted and attempted to choke the officer, who was sent to hospital with a hand injury.
On Tuesday, a provincial court judge considered submissions from the Crown and the defence on whether Broussie should be released pending trial. The defense asked for a publication ban, so the Herald cannot yet report on the evidence presented in court.
Broussie is also facing charges before the Court of Queen’s Bench for a separate allegation of sexual assault, a clerk of that court confirmed. The incident allegedly took place at Black Lake in November of last year. It will come before the court in October.
The judge opted to release Broussie on a non-cash bail, with his sister acting as surety. He will also need to abide by standard conditions, including reporting and keeping the peace.
