Leason suspended for Game 3

Lucas Punkari/Daily Herald Prince Albert Raiders forward Brett Leason was picked in the second round of the NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals Saturday.

The Prince Albert Raiders will be without the services of their leading scorer in the regular season on Tuesday night for the third game in their Eastern Conference quarter-final series with the host Red Deer Rebels.

The Western Hockey League announced Monday afternoon that Brett Leason will serve a one-game suspension for his checking from behind major penalty and game misconduct penalty that he recieved for a hit on Rebels forward Cameron Hausinger during the second period of Saturday’s 6-4 win at the Art Hauser Centre.

Hausinger would stay in the contest and would hear boos from the crowd for the rest of the night.

“It was amazing how he recovered quickly and was back out there the next shift,” Raiders head coach Marc Habscheid said after the game.

“There are two good officials out there (Adam Bloski and Adam Byblow) but they fell for the embellishment, which is too bad as we lost a really good player.”

Leason, who had 89 points in 55 games during the regular season, has one assist so far in the series.

He can return to the lineup for Game 4 in Red Deer on Wednesday night.
