Love and companionship are the secret to a long marriage, says Bill and Evelyn Marshall, who recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.
They were married on July 19th, 1994 in a small church in Briarlea, Saskatchewan. They farmed all their lives, along with their three children, Barbara, Bonnie, and Larry. They traveled the world and made a lot of friends after Bill was elected Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. They retired to Round Lake, and now reside in Abbeysfield House.
According to their daughter, Barbara Aspvik, “They go to Waskesiu every year on their anniversary because that is where they had their honeymoon”.
Bill says their marriage lasted so long because “we’ve done things together all our lives. We golf together, we love dancing, we have a lot of similar interests”.
Evelyn says she thinks it was “living on a farm, happy and healthy”.
Along with volunteering for Meals on Wheels together for many years, Bill also accompanies Evelyn and her band, the Heritage Jammers, to nursing homes where she plays the banjo three times a week.
