With 157 days to go until the start of the 2020 Esso Cup in Prince Albert, the local host organizing committee is continuing to put plans in place to make the national female midget hockey championship one that will be long remembered.

During a press conference at the Art Hauser Centre Thursday morning, it was revealed that fans can now purchase their tickets for the event, which runs from April 19-25.

Packages for the 19-game tournament, which can be purchased on Hockey Canada’s website, are $65 and average out to less than $4 per contest.

“When we looked at setting the prices for the event…we took a look at what other hosts have done in the past and our package falls right in line with that,” host committee chair Robin Wildey said.

“The packages, which come in a commemorative booklet, will be on sale until January. Then will single-game, single-day and championship game tickets going on sale after that.”

Those who are looking to volunteer for the tournament can do so now as forms can be filled out on Hockey Canada’s website.

“We’re looking for around 250 volunteers in different opportunities, such as team hosts, transportation, team services and security,” Wildey said. “Prince Albert is known for being the home for passionate volunteers and we’re looking forward to engaging with the community for what should be a fantastic event.

“There’s no real hard deadline for when we need everyone to apply by, but Hockey Canada does require that everyone wants to volunteer go through a criminal record check.”

It was announced on Thursday that this year’s tournament slogan and hashtag will be #GatewayToGold, which was submitted by 13-year-old Sienna Spence of the Prince Albert Pee Wee Beachcomber Foxes.

Spence will take part in the opening ceremonies on April 19 and also received a 2020 Esso Cup prize package, in addition to an entry into the North Female Hockey School next August.
