Teen suffers multiple injuries after car vs. semi crash

A 16-year-old girl has serious injuries after the car she was driving collided with a semi on Thursday.

According to RCMP, it happened at 8:40 a.m. on Highway 3 near R&W Custom Collision, which is about five kilometres west of the city.

The girl, who was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit, was attempting to cross the intersection when a loaded semi struck the car on the driver’s side.

RCMP, EMS, firefighters and Saskatchewan Environment officers attended the scene.

Parkland Ambulance’s Lyle Karasiuk said the teenage driver was the only patient paramedics treated and took to Victoria Hospital.

He added although her injuries were serious, he believes she was in stable condition.

The semi driver was not physically injured.

RCMP was rerouting traffic while investigating the incident.

They sent an update at 5:40 p.m. later that day saying the highway was open again.
