Security guard threatened with knife trying to stop theft

Prince Albert police have arrested and charged a man after he threatened a security guard at knifepoint when the guard tried to stop him from stealing.

Around 8:28 p.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to the business on the 800 block of 15th Street East, which is in Cornerstone.

Businesses in the area of the crime include Reitmans, Tip Top Tailors, Payless Shoe Source, Warehouse One and Marks Work Warehouse.

When the security guard went to stop the 37-year-old suspect from Montreal Lake, he threatened him with a knife and fled on a bike.

Police located him a short distance away where he was arrested.

The man is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and stealing merchandise not exceeding $5000.

The accused appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Friday.
