Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a house fire that forced a temporary road closure along the 500 block of 28th Street East on Monday.
Crews from the Prince Albert Fire Department (PAFD) were called to the scene at 8:16 a.m. and spent roughly two-and-a-half hours battling the fire. The house was not destroyed, although there was extensive damage.
“It’s still standing,” PAFD Deputy Chief Alex Paul said. “There’s heavy smoke damage on the main floor (and) fire damage in the basement, but in terms of cause that’s still under investigation.”
Traffic was temporarily rerouted while firefighters extinguished the blaze. The road reopened to traffic shortly after 11 a.m.
This is the second fire in three days to occur on the 500 block of 28th Street East. Firefighters also extinguished a blaze in an apartment building on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
No injuries were reported, but the building did sustain minor fire, water and smoke damage. That fire is also under investigation.
