Province reports 98 new COVID-19 cases, 95 recoveries and one new death in Friday update

Provincial health officials reported 98 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, along with 95 recoveries and one death.

A patient in their 70s from the North West Zone died after testing positive for the virus. The province did not release any more details about the case. A total of 562 patients have died since the start of the pandemic.

Healthcare workers administered 24,260 vaccine doses on Thursday and Friday. That includes 1,921 in North Central, 182 in the Far North West, 421 in the Far North East, 809 in the North East, and three in Far North Central. The province is still waiting on residency data for 753 doses.

Roughly 69 per cent of Saskatchewan adults have received their first dose. Nearly 269,000 residents are fully vaccinated, including 19,493 in North Central.

North Central reported 19 new cases on Friday and 15 recoveries. There are now 79 active cases in the region.

Prince Albert 16 of those new cases, bringing the active case total to 39. North Central Zone 1 reported one new case. Zone 3 reported two. There are now 35 active cases in Zone 1, and five in Zone 3.

The Far North West reported one new case on Friday. That was the only new case reported in the entire far north, however a number of previously announced cases were reassigned to the region.

Health officials added three positive cases that were originally tested out of province to the Far North West. They also added one new case to the Far North West and another to the Far North East that had been announced earlier in the week without residency information.

There are now 31 active cases in the Far North West, 15 in the Far North East, and none in Far North Central.

The North East reported two new cases and seven more recoveries. There are now 19 active cases in the area.

As of Friday, Saskatchewan has 763 active cases. The Saskatoon Zone has the highest number with 190, followed by the Regina Zone with 148, the North West Zone with 83, and North Central with 79.

Far North Central has the lowest number of cases with zero, followed by the Far North East with 15, the North East with 19, and the South West with 22.

Saskatchewan has reported an average of 78 new cases per day over the past seven days. The seven day average was also 78 on Friday, June 11.

As of Friday there are 81 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 10 in intensive care. One of those ICU patients is in North Central.
