The Government of Saskatchewan and Nutrien have renewed their commitments to STARS by helping fund a new fleet.
STARS provides helicopter medical service across Saskatchewan, transporting more than 4100 patients since starting operations in 2012.
The province is committing to supporting them for another 10 years.
They’re also funding one of three new helicopters needed for fleet renewal.
In a news release, Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit thanked STARS for their service and Nutrien for their support.
“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to timely access to emergency medical services for the residents of Saskatchewan, particularly those in rural and remote areas,” he said.
The government provides about half their funding.
The rest comes from municipalities, businesses, service clubs and individual donors.
On top of providing the hangar at STARS’ Saskatoon base, Nutrien’s funding is going towards another helicopter.
“We have operations that span the province and we know the importance of having access to emergency care for our communities,” said Nutrien Vice-President of Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations Candance Laing.
STARS is raising money for the third helicopter through their Keep the Fight in Flight campaign, which they announced back in June.
President and CEO Andrea Robertson said the donations will ensure their service for decades to come.
“We couldn’t be part of the chain of survival without the tremendous support.”
