PBO again confirms the NDP/Liberal Carbon Tax is impoverishing Canadians

The Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) is a neutral, non-partisan entity which is independent of Government. It was created by Parliament to provide economic and financial analysis, and to promote greater fiscal transparency and accountability.

Last week, the PBO confirmed that the NDP/Liberal carbon tax is impoverishing Canadians. In a new report, the PBO verified that Canadians will suffer a “net cost,” paying more in the carbon tax than they will ever get back in rebates. A copy of the PBO Report is posted on its website: https://www.pbo-dpb.ca/en.

This proves what my Conservative colleagues and I have been saying all along; that the carbon tax is nothing more than an expensive scam. On top of this, the PBO found that the NDP/Liberal tax will cost the average person $894 in Saskatchewan. Despite what Jagmeet Singh and Justin Trudeau say, it is indisputable that the carbon tax makes most Canadians poorer.

Yet instead of giving Canadians the relief they deserve during these very difficult economic times, the NDP/Liberal Government decided to hike their carbon tax by 23 per cent last spring, as part of its plan to quadruple the carbon tax by 2030. And they did so while pretending that it was somehow making Canadians richer.

The NDP/Liberal Government can no longer peddle this lie to Canadians. As the PBO wrote, “the average household in each of the backstop provinces will see a net cost, paying more in the federal fuel charge and related Goods and Services Tax, as well as receiving lower incomes (due to the fuel charge), compared to the Canada Carbon Rebate they receive.” The PBO’s findings in fact corroborate the NDP/Liberal Government’s own data, which they tried to hide from Canadians, showing the carbon tax will cost the Canadian economy $30.5 billion per year by 2030.

It has never been clearer that the carbon tax is making Canadians worse off. It’s time for the NDP to stop boosting carbon taxes, stop protecting this costly Prime Minister, and allow Canadians to vote in a carbon tax election. Only then can Canadians choose to axe the tax and bring home a Common Sense Conservative government.
