Kids across Prince Albert will get to run around and have tons of fun at the city’s annual KidzFest this Thursday at Kinsmen Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
New this year to the festival are circus performers and magicians, as well as jugglers that will circulate the park grounds and interact with the kids.
The festival is coordinated by the city’s playground leaders, the volunteers who run the annual playground program every summer.
In addition to the new features, kids will get to jump around in bouncy castles, compete in obstacle courses, try their luck at a dunk tank, get their face painted and participate in a coordinated water fight.
“Our division in the city is to make sure that kids have a fun summer,” said Rayanne Buller, playground coordinator for the community services department. “Even if families (can’t) take their kids to the lake on the weekend or do family (activities) all the time, we put on this program that’s free for everyone.”
Buller also said the program made sure cheap food options were available for the kids, like 50-cent hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, veggies and juice.
The entire event is funded through donations from corporations around the city, including Northern Lights Community Development Corporation, SIGA, the High Noon Optimist Club, SaskTel, and the YWCA.
The city mainly advertised the event on its website and leaders of the playground program invited their kids to come. Coordinators are still welcoming volunteers to sign up, especially for face painting, Buller said. People can call the Margo Fournier Centre if they wish to still sign up to volunteer.
