Moose Jaw takes 2-0 lead in WHL Championship Series

The Moose Jaw Warriors are off to a quick start in the WHL Championship Series, winning both games on the road at the Veteran’s Memorial Colosseum in Portland over the weekend.

Game 1 would go the Warriors with a 3-2 final. Atley Calvert, Denton Mateychuk and Matthew Savoie scored for Moose Jaw.

Diego Buttazoni and Prince Albert product Gabe Klassen had the tallies for Portland.

Jan Spunar made 34 saves for Portland while Jackson Unger turned aside 31 Winterhawk shots for Moose Jaw.

In Game 2, the Warriors would skate to a 5-1 result.

Atley Calvert, Pavel McKenzie, Brayden Yager and two tallies from Jagger Firkus powered Moose Jaw to the win.

Nate Danielson was the lone goal scorer for Portland.

The series shifts back to Moose Jaw for Game 3 on Tuesday night. Puck drops at 8 p.m.
