Local filmmaker to debut new short production
Writing, directing and staring in her latest production was a different experience for local filmmaker Carli Robertson, and she’s hoping that feeling will transfer over to the audience.
Robertson spent the last nine months writing and filming “Miss” with a crew of roughly 10 people, with the goal of giving audiences something unexpected.
“I didn’t follow the usual, or the expected, formula,” she said during an interview on Tuesday. “I just wanted it to surprise people a little bit, be little bit different.”
“Miss” follows the struggles of young couple Keith and Ivy after Keith begins looking for more excitement with another woman. Robertson described the short film as “a love story gone wrong,” and said it’s designed to make people think.
“I watch romantic comedies, but I don’t really think that’s my style for creating,” Robertson said. “My favourite movie is The Prestige, so I like darker movies that make you think more.”
