A group of suspected car thieves left a man bleeding on an East Hill lawn early Sunday morning, after one assailant attacked him with a machete.

The Prince Albert Police Service reported the incident in a press release. Officers responded to a disturbance call at 12:50 a.m. on the 500 Block of 27 Street East, where they found the man – lying on the front lawn of a home bleeding from major injuries. They called paramedics who took the victim to hospital.

He said he was attacked after chasing a group of young people who he heard going through his vehicle. He caught one of the suspected thieves, but then the group collectively assaulted him. Police reported that one of his attackers was armed with a machete.

Police spokesperson Alanna Adamko said the attacker wielded the machete at the victim, leaving him with cutting injuries. She did not have any updated information on the victim’s condition.
