PA rock group Between Bridges releases debut EP at Friday night concert

Travis Beatty says his group’s debut EP started as a school assignment.

Beatty, singer and guitarist for PA rock band Between Bridges, wrote a short story for a “literary assessment” back in September and the following month the group — Beatty, bassist Riley Burr and drummer Kolton Kimbley — started work on their first record, Wild.

Beatty describes Wild as a “concept album” loosely based on his assignment, which tells the story of a character who wakes up lost in a dark forest and tries to find a way out. The songs describe his journey as he stumbles and searches for shelter along the way.

“He tries to venture and run through the forest but as he does that he realizes that as he keeps running, there’s really no total end to the whole forest,” Beatty said, adding that he sees the story as metaphor for mental health issues.

“It’ll always be a little bit rough, but there’s some sort of light in the distance, wherever you can find it.”

After nine months of writing and recording, Between Bridges is releasing Wild at a concert at the Mann Art Gallery on Friday, July 7. The group will be joined by opening act Jettfire, another local band, and $2 from each $7 ticket will be donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
