At 15 games played, the Prince Albert Northern Bears are now one game past the halfway mark of their 2017-18 season of the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League.
The team’s 28-game regular season will end on the weekend of Feb. 17-18, when it hosts a set of back-to-back games against the Weyburn Gold Wings at the Art Hauser Centre.
Assuming they make the playoffs, their post-season play will begin in March.
The following is a numerical and statistical breakdown of the Bears team, compared to their opponents and compared to last year’s squad.
2: The spot the Bears occupy in the eight-team league. They have 36 points, courtesy 12 wins, three losses and no overtime losses or overtime wins; a win earns a team three points, while an overtime win earns it two points.
With an overtime loss, a team will earn one point.
Hence the first-place Saskatoon Stars, who have 38 points from 12 wins, zero losses and one overtime win.
The Regina Rebels sit in third place behind P.A. at 23 points, thanks to seven wins, three losses and two overtime losses.
These spots will hold until Dec. 9, the next time any of the top-three teams play; the Bears will play on the road against Battlefords Sharks on Dec. 9 and on Dec. 10.
15: The number of games the Bears have played so far this year.
The spread between games played among the league’s eight teams is four: Regina has played the least number of games (12), while the Sharks have played the most (16).
33: The number of goals the Bears have allowed this year over their 15 games. That number ranks the team third overall in the league, behind second-place Notre Dame (25) and first-place Saskatoon (21).
