Team Sask announces rosters for Western Canada Summer Games

A total of 436 athletes will be representing Saskatchewan on home turf next month as the final roster was announced for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games, which will be held in Swift Current from Aug. 9-18.

There will be a strong contingent from Prince Albert athletes at the event, as Kaleb Willoughby (softball), Kiana Mullner (softball), Sophie Bilodeau (swimming), Matthew Lueck (beach volleyball), Donovan Neudorf (wrestling), Brock Toymn (volleyball) and Ethan Smith (volleyball) will all be competing.

T.J. Baker, who plays out of the Waskiesu Golf Course, is on the golf team and Prince Albert Aces player Erin Kirkland, who is from Tisdale, will compete in the softball event.

Other athletes from the area that have earned a spot at the Summer Games are Noah Opseth of Birch Hills (Volleyball), Dae Dae Halkett of Christopher Lake (softball), Kaylee Ilnisky of Kinistino (track and field), Seth Goulet of Spiritwood (cycling) and Shellbrook’s Gavin Fisher and Ethan Bell (softball).

Team Sask also announced on Tuesday that canoe and kayak athlete Christian Patterson of Regina will serve as the flag bearer during the opening ceremonies.

“Every one of our teams has put in a tremendous amount of preparation to get ready for their moment on this major stage,” Team Sask Chef de Mission Mark Bracken said.

“These games will be an opportunity to build lifelong memories, meet new friends from across the western provinces and northern territories, and enjoy the incredible experience that only a major multi-sport games can offer.”
