One might look at Saturday’s Prairie Gold Lacrosse League senior division game at Kinsmen Arena as another dominant showing for the powerhouse Saskatoon Brewers.
However, the Prince Albert Outlaws were able to take a lot of positives out of the 19-6 affair, despite only having 11 players in the lineup.
“Considering that we had just played the night before in Saskatoon, it was really impressive to see just how hard everyone was playing all game,” Outlaws player-coach Lawrence Holizki said. “We buried almost 50 percent of our shots against the Brewers, which is a huge accomplishment.”
“We actually had a 4-2 lead after the first period, which is a great feeling to have. However, their coaching staff lit a fire underneath the Brewers and they really came out hard in the last two periods.”
Scott Zelensky and Brody Holizki had a pair of goals each for the Outlaws in their home finale, while Bryton Thorarinson found the back of the net five times for the 8-0 Brewers.
Saturday’s setback came 24 hours after the 3-5-1 Outlaws dropped a 13-5 to the host Saskatoon Steelers.
“With graduations and weddings going on at this time of the year, that affected our roster quite a bit,” Holizki said. “Friday ended up being my first game of the season, so that was a little rough for me as I got used to playing again.
“We didn’t play that bad, but our offence just couldn’t get things going. We had not goals in the first period and that’s tough to come back from at this level.”
Scoring details from Friday’s contest were not available.
Following the weekend’s slate of games, the Outlaws were one point back of the 4-3 Saskatoon Swat for fourth place in the standings and had a one point advantage over the 2-2-2 Steelers.
“We have one game left on Saturday in Saskatoon (against the Plainsman) and then we’ll see where things go from there,” Holizki said.
“There’s a chance that we could still finish in fourth spot, but it really depends on what the Steelers and Swat do. We’re going to be scoreboard watching over the last week, as it will determine if we are in the main playoffs or if we end up in the Tier II category that we won last year.”
