The cast of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is describing it as a play unlike any other in Prince Albert.
They’re currently binding together the set, lighting, and music, which takes the stage of the E.A. Rawlinson Centre Oct. 18-20, presented by Spark Theatre.
The audience will follow along with Ichabod Crane, a school teacher who comes to the village of Sleepy Hollow.
He falls in love with Katrina Van Tassel, but finds himself in a love triangle.
In the meantime, he gets to know all of the creepy stories in the village.
Ian Dickson, who plays Ichabod Crane, said it’s one of the most rewarding and unique plays he’s done in over 20 years of acting.
“It’s like a nonstop snowball effect of a show, but you kind of want that snowball to hit you when it gets to the bottom of the hill,” he said.
“It’s the perfect Halloween show because it’s not necessarily scary, but it’s spooky; it’s quirky,” added Dickson. “It’s such a weird mix of the two worlds of theatre because it is funny, but it’s not. They’ll laugh, but they won’t want to because there’s always something happening.”
He said the cast is tight knit, rehearsing three times a week since the end of August.
“A lot of other shows, you don’t even see some other actors very much because they’re not in scenes with you, but they’re a main part of the show as well. This, it’s been all of us, every rehearsal, every time, together.”
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has a cast of 11 people.
But not everyone in the show has been acting for as long as Dickson.
For Emma Anderson, who plays Katrina Van Tassel, this is her first real drama experience.
“When I was a kid in high school, I always wanted to go into drama and theatre and every year, I would walk to the end of the hallway and write my name on the signup sheet and every year I would chicken out and not show up,” she explained.
“Originally I was just hoping to be a tree or something,” she said with a laugh. “I was very surprised and delighted and scared to find out that I had gotten a fairly substantial role.”
Director Adreanna Boucher said this is also a new experience for her.
Although she runs an entertainment company, she usually directs interactive dinner theatre shows.
For The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, she had to read the script numerous times before deciding how she wanted every element to come together.
“There’s the lights and sound, there’s music and choosing the right music to set the tone for the show. Those things are very new to me,” she said.
“We all start somewhere. I’m just so impressed with the level of talent and hard work that all the actors have brought to the show.”
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow runs every evening from Oct. 18-20, starting at 7:30 p.m. It’s about two hours long.
There’s also a show on Friday afternoon dedicated to school classes.
Adult tickets cost $37, seniors are $33 and students are $25.
However, to see all three shows per season, it costs $85 for adults and $75 for seniors.
