U17 Celtic boys’ coach reflects on a season of growth for his team

Soccer season may be over for the Prince Albert U17 Celtic boys, but while they won’t be heading to Saskatoon for this weekend’s finals, coach Rod McKay said his team has come a long way.

“I thought the season was good in that the team got better. They progressed as the season went on. They definitely improved from seasons past,” he said.

“They were able to get together and meet expectations from the coach. Unfortunately, if you want to look at strictly win-loss, we were on the losing side of a season, but I don’t really put it that way. I think there were a lot more positives.”

This summer the U17 Celtic boys have been participating in the Saskatchewan Soccer Association’s Provincial Soccer League (PSL). The PSL season took place over four weekends, beginning in Prince Albert on the May 26 weekend and continuing in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw in June.

This past weekend the Celtics were in Regina for the final PSL weekend. The team played two games, falling 5-2 to Regina QC on Friday and narrowly losing 1-0 to Saskatoon North on Saturday.
