For the first time since the tournament started in 2001, Saskatchewan will compete in the championship contest at the National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

The team, which features Prince Albert Northern Bears forwards Brooklyn Anderson, Jasper Desmarais and Paris Oleksyn, advanced to Saturday’s gold medal game with a 3-1 victory over Ontario Blue in a semifinal affair in Morden, Man. on Friday afternoon.

Lauren Focht and Neena Brick of the Regina Rebels led the way for Saskatchewan with one goal and two assists each.

Anna-Liese King of the Notre Dame Hounds also scored in the triumph, which also guaranteed the program’s first ever medal at the tournament.

Saturday’s final, which will take place at 4 p.m. in Winkler, Man. and will air nationally on TSN, will see Saskatchewan face the winner of Friday’s other semifinal contest between Quebec and Ontario Red.
