Saskatchewan RCMP officers handed out more than 700 tickets during the Thanksgiving long weekend, including 546 for speeding.

Detachments across the province were out in force to curtail impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and seatbelt violations, which continue to be the main cause of injury or death on Canadian roadways.

In total, RCMP officers wrote 715 tickets, while laying six impaired driving charges and handing out two roadside suspensions. Speeding was the most common ticket, although 143 others were also handed out for moving or non-moving violations.

Officers also issued 456 written warnings, along with 56 inspection notices.

There was one fatal collision near Maple Creek on Oct. 7. A 50-year-old woman from Maple Creek was pronounced dead on the scene, while a 55-year-old man was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
