Prince Albert teams send 22 players to SaskFirst development tournaments

Prince Albert will be well represented at the midget and bantam levels at a series of upcoming provincial tournaments.

Earlier this month the Saskatchewan Hockey Association held its male and female SaskFirst U16 and U18 regional hockey development camps. The province’s top 376 players as chosen by SaskFirst evaluators advance from the camps to the tournament stage. Those players have been divided into teams and this week the SaskFirst tournament rosters and schedules were released.

There is plenty of P.A. content, as 22 players from four teams in the city were named to tournament teams.

“We’ve got a good area for young athletes,” said P.A. Northern Bears coach Jeff Willoughby, who has a majority of his team participating in the competition.

“It doesn’t seem to matter what sport it is, we have a pretty good area for young athletes to thrive and it’s a hockey town and obviously, with the numbers that are reflected by all these teams being represented, it’s just a testament to how important hockey is to our culture here.”
