Young P.A. boxer looks to extend undefeated streak to 4-0

The last time Luke Kalmakoff stepped into the ring the referee called the fight in under a minute. With his opponent unable to continue, the young boxer won by technical knockout.

Two years into his boxing career, Kalmakoff, 11, has a perfect 3-0 record. One month from now he will compete in his first Golden Glove fight in Saskatoon.

“He’s got a good left jab, he moves well, he’s fast on his feet and he thinks well on his feet. Those are the three main ingredients to be a good boxer: good jab, move fast and think fast,” said Robert Tichkowsky, Kalmakoff’s coach at Prince Albert’s Thomas Settee Boxing Club.

“He’s getting his jab down pat. That’s the main punch in boxing. That controls the fight and he’s starting to slowly get the combinations rolling but it’s going to take time still. He’s still young.”
