PA Hockey holds annual general meeting

PA Hockey held its annual general meeting at the Summer Games Building on Wednesday, May 10, looking back on new initiatives and reviewing financial statements.

The organization budgeted for a $225 deficit for 2016-17, but with three months remaining in the hockey season the organization’s net income is $34,525.66. With staff salaries and office expenses still to be calculated, technical director expects PA Hockey will finish the year close to breaking even.

This year PA Hockey received 871 player registrations, down from 968 the previous year. Executive director Corinne Bell said the discrepancy was partially due to Midget players graduating.

At the meeting Bell presented the organization’s financial statements, including costs and revenue broken down to a player-by-player level. PA Hockey has determined that, with registration, ice time and referee fees factored in, each individual Initiation, Novice and Atom player earns the association $15.67, $87.62 and $78.61, respectively. Similarly, Peewee Tier II and III bring in $18.16, while Pewee Tier I players bring in $78.59 each.

This year five PA Hockey Bantam teams joined the Sask. Valley Minor Hockey League. Because the cost of ice time and referees was not certain in the new league, Bantam Tier II and Tier I players cost PA Hockey $130.77 and $92.77 respectively.

At the Midget level, Tier II players cost the association $2.02 each, while the Tier I boys and female Midget ‘AA’ players brought in $25.37 and $34.05 each.
