Police dealt with a large number of intoxicated persons over the weekend, including two men who struggled with an officer – prompting the withdrawal of a Taser.
All in all, the Prince Albert Police Service responded to 333 calls over the weekend and arrested 62 people. Forty-three of those calls were for intoxicated persons, while thirty were for disturbances.
The most eventful such complaint came in early Sunday morning. At 3:00 a.m., it brought a patrol officer to 15 Avenue East and 15 Street East, where two men were drinking and carrying an open box of beer.
On of the men, a 34-year-old from Cumberland House, was wanted on outstanding Traffic Safety Act warrants. The officer took him into custody and attempted to place the other man, a 25-year-old, under arrest for public intoxication. That man chose to resist.
He “became agitated” and struggled with the officer. The older man started to interfere. In an attempt to gain control of the situation, the officer withdrew his Taser – but did not fire.
Luckily, a member of the public was stepped in to assist the officer. With that help, the officer took both men into custody. No one was injured, according to police.
The 25-year-old was charged with resisting arrest and was set to make his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court Monday.
