Officer allegedly spit on while making public intoxication arrest

A man has been charged with assaulting an officer after allegedly spitting on police during an arrest.

Late Friday night, police were heading to the 600 block of 28 Street West for an unknown 911 call. En route, they learned that a man had been causing problems and had left a residence on foot.

They soon found their suspect, a 33-year-old man. They placed the apparently drunken man under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place. After officers placed him in handcuffs, he became “uncooperative.” He attempted to pull away, according to a police press release, and allegedly spit on an officer.

The man was set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday to face charges of assaulting a police officer.
