Nearly half a kilogram of drugs seized after traffic stop near Maidstone

The Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit seized almost half a kilogram of drugs from a vehicle on Sunday.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Maidstone, conducting a search under the Cannabis Control (Saskatchewan) Act. They found 259 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 223 grams of suspected cocaine in vacuum-sealed bags.

Altogether, the drugs equate to about 3500 uses.

The lone occupant of the vehicle, 27-year-old Darian Smith of Edmonton, is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Smith made his first court appearance in Lloydminister on Monday.
