Mustangs force Game 7 and Ice Wolves eliminated in SJHL playoffs

The Melfort Mustangs and Yorkton Terriers had a crucial Game 7 in their SJHL quarter-final series on Tuesday, March 29 and the La Ronge Ice Wolves were eliminated 4-2 in their quarter-final series by the Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL playoffs.

The Mustangs overcame a 3-1 series deficit to get the series to Game 7. Results were not available by press time.

The Mustangs forced Game 7 with a 5-3 win over the Terriers in Yorkton on Sunday, March 27.

Melfort led 3-0 after the first period and 4-2 after the second period.

Ben Tkachuk, Seth McCullough, Marco Lopez, Leith Olafson and Nolan Doell scored for the Mustangs.

Kishau Gervais had a pair of goals for the Terriers and JD Hall added the other Yorkton goal.

Joel Favreau made 28 saves for Melfort; Kael DePape had 26 saves for the Terriers.

Melfort got back in the series with a 5-1 win over Yorkton at the Northern Lights Palace on Friday, March 25.

The Mustangs led 1-0 after the first period and 3-1 after the second period.

Clarke Huxley, Tye Scherger, Thomas Moore, Noah Wilson and Lopez scored for Melfort.

Colby Vranai responded for the Terriers.

Favreau made 22 saves for Melfort; DePape made 40 saves for Yorkton.

The Terriers took a 3-1 series lead with a 5-2 win over the Mustangs in Yorkton on Wednesday, March 23.

Yorkton led 3-0 after the first period and 4-1 after the second period.

Curtis Hammond had both goals for the Mustangs.

Karsten Kruska, Tyson Janzen, Kody Norberg, Hall and Gervais scored for the Terriers.

Favreau made 19 saves for Melfort; DePape made 38 saves for Yorkton.

The Terriers took a 2-1 series lead with a 2-1 overtime win over the Mustangs in Yorkton on Tuesday, March 22.

Greg Nelson scored the overtime winner 7:15 into the extra frame.

The game was scoreless after the first and second periods.

Scherger scored the regulation time goal for Melfort.

Parker Jasper scored the regualtion time goal for Yorkton.

Favreau made 31 saves for the Mustangs; DePape made 30 saves for the Terriers.

The Broncos won the series the Ice Wolves with a 5-3 victory in La Ronge on Sunday, March 27.

Humboldt led 1-0 after the first period and the game was tied 2-2 after the second period.

Taylor Webb had a pair of goals for the Ice Wolves and Ryley Morgan scored the other La Ronge goal.

Lucas Ceccarelli and Cage Newans each had a pair of goals for the Broncos with Rhett Gibson adding the other Humboldt goal.

Xavier Cannon made 25 saves for La Ronge; Rayce Ramsey had 30 saves for Humboldt.

Humboldt took a stranglehold on the series with a 4-1 win over the Ice Wolves in Humboldt on Friday, March 25.

The game was scoreless after the first period and Humboldt led 3-1 after the second period.

Holden Knights scored the lone goal for La Ronge.

James Form has a pair of goals for Humboldt while Ethan Zielke and Nicksha Eric added the other Broncos’ goals.

Cannon made 29 saves for La Ronge; Ramsey made 20 saves for Humboldt.

Humboldt took control of the series with a 7-5 win over the Ice Wolves in La Ronge on Wednesday, March 23.

The Ice Wolves led 3-2 after the first period and the game was tied 5-5 after the second period.

Ethan Strik, Mkyllan Couture, Conrad Mitchell, Gavin Mattey and Morgan scored for La Ronge.

Alex Morozoff had a hat trick and Noah Barlage had a pair of goals for the Broncos; Jerzy Orchard and Zielke added the other Humboldt goals.

Cannon made 43 saves for La Ronge; Ramsey made 26 saves for Humboldt.

La Ronge took a 2-1 series lead with a 4-2 win over the Broncos in La Ronge on Tuesday, March 22.

The Broncos led 2-1 after the first period and the Ice Wolves led 3-2 afer the second period.

Liam McInnis, Colten Thompson, Kole Christensson and Couture scored for La Ronge.

Kade Olsen and Alex Saretsky responded for the Broncos.

Cannon made 41 saves for La Ronge; Ramsey made 39 saves for Humboldt.

In the other series, the Flin Flon Bombers eliminated the Battlefords North Stars 4-2 and the Estevan Bruins eliminated the Notre Dame Hounds 4-1.

Estevan and Humboldt will have home ice for the semi-finals the opponents will be determined after the conclusion of the Yorkton and Melfort series on Tuesday, March 29.
