Local band The Goats play one last show before fiddler moves to Winnipeg

After playing together for four years, Prince Albert string band The Goats is going on hiatus. The decision came after founding fiddler Ryan Spracklin announced he was moving with his wife to Winnipeg.

“We’re definitely very sad to leave all of our friends and the great connections that we’ve made in Prince Albert,” Spracklin said.

“There’s excitement as well with the new prospects but it’s not going to be easy to realize that I’m not going to be able to play music with those guys in the foreseeable future.”

But before Spracklin packs up and heads east, The Goats — Spracklin, bassist Teegan Jeffers and guitarists Wade Fehr and Josh L’Henaff — are preforming one last time. Their Going on Hiatus show will take place at the Rock Tout Café on Aug. 26.

“We figured we should probably do one last show before (I go) because I don’t ever want to use a term like ‘breaking up,’ especially in a situation where I’m always willing to play music with these people and I’d want to keep that open. So I think ‘hiatus’ is he best way to say it,” Spracklin said.

When the band first started playing together four years go, they were just a group of friends doing what they enjoy. Forming a band wasn’t top of mind, they just wanted to jam.

“From day one as soon as we started playing music together it just worked. It was electric,” Spracklin said.

“Then we kind of said, ‘We have something here, this is something we want to pursue, what’s the next step?’”
