David Light is doing everything he can to find his missing twin brother, Donald, who disappeared from his Prince Albert home last week.
The 31-year-old was last seen leaving a residence on the 400 block of Eighth Street East at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Police say they’ve obtained information suggesting Donald may have been near the river before he disappeared, and teamed up with local search and rescue groups on Wednesday to cover the area using drones.
David created a Facebook page called FIND DONALD LIGHT that’s rallied up 1,500 people so far to coordinate on searching and postering.
“It helps relieve the pressure a little bit, lets my mom know that a bunch of people in the community are coming together,” he said. His mom, Kelly Pickering, said officers have told her to stay home in case Donald calls.
However, David said he’s often had to separate fact from fiction on the page: “Yes, you have so many people that are there to be helpful, but then there’s also everybody is their own detective and coming to their own conclusions.”
He’s been regularly updating the group throughout the police investigation.
Although David was born and raised in Prince Albert, he now lives in Nova Scotia, making the situation that much harder. Since he moved, he’s continued to stay in touch with his family through a group chat and by calling home once in a while.
On Thursday, he said police were working to finalize the subpoena for Donald’s phone records. David hopes this allows them to trace Donald’s path before his phone died.
Pickering said his cellphone was last pinged at the McIntosh Mall downtown at about 11 p.m. the night he disappeared.
David vividly remembers when he found out the next morning.
“I was at the gym, but the gym that I go to here doesn’t have service, so I came out of the gym and my phone blew up like crazy,” he said.
“I thought there just must be some big mixup or some confusion, he for some reason…was at my aunt’s house and had drinks and then slept the night, or there was just something that we were missing and then it turned into what it’s turned into.”
So far, the family has no concrete clues on the whereabouts of Donald, but they remain hopeful.
“As of right now, it’s kind of just like he vanished,” said David.
He said there were no signs that his brother was struggling with his mental health.
“He was funny, sarcastic. He’s very smart. Sometimes a little introverted, but not overly,” said David, looking back on when they shared a room up until they were 18 years old.
Light is described as five-foot-eleven with dark blonde hair and glasses. Pickering said he was wearing a long, dark jacket, a dark toque, blue jeans and loafer-style, tie-up shoes when he left home.
