Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback came just short of endorsing Scott Moe for Saskatchewan Party leadership Friday.
Hoback serves as Conservative Party of Canada Saskatchewan Caucus. He can’t come out and back one candidate for Sask. Party leadership. The winner of that race will become premier of Saskatchewan.
While Hoback didn’t back any one candidate, he had lots to say about his neighbour, Scott Moe.
“Scott is a great MLA,” Hoback said. “We both live in Shellbrook. He’s just down the street for me, literally. I’m excited to see him in this race.”
For Hoback, whoever does win the race will take on an important job. The next premier of Saskatchewan will be an important ally for the federal conservatives as they oppose the implementation of a carbon tax and other tax increases.
“We’ve got some really good people lined up to replace premier Brad Wall. The person who comes in behind him has a lot of work ahead of them,” Hoback said.
“As we see what’s happening in Ottawa, we’re going to need a strong premier to fight the carbon tax and fight the battles against Ottawa.”
Hoback said he’s following the race as much as anyone else in Saskatchewan, and some candidates have done well so far in the debates, including Moe.
“He’s doing very well,” Hoback said of Moe.
“The voters will decide at the end of the day, but I can’t think of a better person to be the next premier of Saskatchewan than somebody from our backyard.”
