Barveenok Ukrainian dancers begin new season, learn from the professionals
Prince Albert’s young Ukrainian dancers had their season debut over the weekend.
More than 50 dancers age 4 to 18 showed off their moves on Saturday night as P.A.’s Ukrainian community celebrated Obzynky, the Ukrainian harvest festival, at the P.A. Exhibiton Centre. The event was also a fundraiser for the Prince Albert Barveenok Dance Club.
A capacity crowd of 500 attended the dinner and dancing spectacle. Barveenok president Sheri Duffield said Obzynky sells out every year and organizers don’t even have to advertise.
“(The students) have been learning since September this year’s routine and they get to perform the first dances they’ve learned in this atmosphere, which is very welcoming and very forgiving,” Duffield said.
