Escaped inmate surfaces briefly near Yorkton

Police are searching for Steven Briggs, a 24-year-old inmate who escaped custody in Prince Albert on Dec. 31 and is thought to be in the Yorkton area.

Staff at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary’s minimum-security unit noticed Briggs was missing during the 10 p.m. count on Monday. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately notified police, who tracked Briggs to Yorkton. He was last seen driving a stolen CSC truck at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The truck is described as a blue 2015 Dodge four-door crew cab model.

Briggs is described as having a medium complexion with green eyes and brown hair. He has tattoos on his right hand, left hand and left forearm. He is 5’9” tall and 157 lbs. He is currently serving a seven-year and three month sentence for assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, robbery, motor vehicle theft and possession of property obtained by crime.
