Bringing the laughs

Local comedian Kelly Taylor’s travelling stand-up show comes to P.A.

Around three years ago, Kelly Taylor added “booking agent” to his job description, as the Prince Albert comedian started connecting funny people to venues around Saskatchewan.

The new venture came following a performance of Taylor’s at the Capitol Music Club in Saskatoon. After the show, Taylor said he was asked if he would be interested in booking acts in the future, “because they’ve got a music background, they wouldn’t know the comedy.”

This summer, Taylor has been bringing comedians to the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club’s Rock and Iron Sports Bar. While the monthly shows have typically featured a single performer, this week Taylor has something more in store.

Taylor recently launched The Saskatchewan Road Comedy Festival, a travelling comedy show featuring four comedians. The festival has already hit Last Mountain Lake and the Elk Ridge Resort. On Wednesday night it’s in Saskatoon and on Thursday the show comes to the Rock and Iron in P.A.

“I’m very excited to bring a little comedy festival into P.A.,” Taylor said.

“The thing about being a comedian for so many years is I know who’s good and who’s bad and who to stay away from.”

The P.A. festival date will feature a quartet of Albertan funnymen: Sean Lecomber, Kerry Unger, Kent Tilley and David Dempsey, who originally hails from Australia.
