Bears, Mintos and Raiders represented on Saskatchewan teams for Canada Winter Games

There will be some familiar faces for Prince Albert hockey fans to keep an eye out for at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

Members of the Prince Albert Mintos and Prince Albert Northern Bears, along with two prospects of the Prince Albert Raiders, will be on Saskatchewan’s men’s and women’s hockey team at the event, which will be held in Red Deer from Feb. 15 to March 3.

Mintos players and Prince Albert products Logan Cox, Ashton Ferster, Gabe Klassen and Marek Schneider are all part of the men’s team, which consists entirely of players born in the year 2003.

They will be joined by Raiders draft picks Nolan Allan and Logan Linklater, who are playing for the Saskatoon Blazers and the Swift Current Legionnaires respectively this season.

Fellow Raiders prospect Tyson Laventure will be playing for Alberta at the tournament.

The Bears will be represented by Kate Ball, Miranda Heidt and Jadyn Kushniruk of Saskatoon, along with Prince Albert’s Abby Soyko.

Jayda Sachs of Warman, who played with the Bears from 2014-16 before joining the Saskatoon Stars, is also on the Saskatchewan team that is made up of players born in the years 2001 and 2002.

The province’s men’s team last won a medal in 1995 when they captured the gold in Grande Prairie, Alta., while the women’s program last trip to the podium came in 2003 when they won a bronze medal in Bathurst, N.B.
