Mintos outscore Legionnaires 9-1 on weekend road trip
The Prince Albert Mintos had a successful outing in Swift Current this weekend, knocking off the Legionnaires 6-0 on Friday night and 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Logan Barlage led the way for P.A. in Game 1, scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist in the winning effort.
Jacob Leicht and Cael Zimmerman made it 2-0 P.A. after the first period and Kyrell Sopotyk, back from suspension, scored his 24th goal of the year after five minutes of play in the second to give P.A. a 3-0 lead.
From there it was the Barlage show as the Mintos rookie scored once in the second and added two more goals in the third to make it a 6-0 game. P.A. goalie Cale Elder stopped all 24 shots against for his third shutout of the year.
In the second match the Legionnaires were first on the board, as Swift Current forward Hunter Lamb finally beat Elder in the last minute of play in the first period to give the home team a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Austin Lamotte replied for P.A. in the second period and Sopotyk gave the Mintos the lead on the power play half-way through the final frame. Ty Mosimann added an insurance marker in the dying minutes of the game to lift the Mintos to a 3-1 victory.
The Mintos’ next game is on Tuesday, Jan. 31 when they host the Saskatoon Blazers. Game time is 7 p.m.
