Raiders score thee power play goals in 3-2 win over Broncos

Max Martin scored with six seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Prince Albert Raiders to a 3-2 victory over the Broncos in Swift Current on Sunday afternoon.

The Raiders now have five wins in their last six games and are five-for-nine on the power play in their last two matches.

P.A.’s Cavin Leth was first to score, batting a puck out of the air and into the net for a power play goal. It was the former Bronco’s fifth goal in as many games.

Later in the frame the Broncos would find power play success of their own as centreman Kaden Elder beat Raider netminder Nicholas Sanders, who was starting his sixth-straight game.

Play became emotional later in the frame with both teams taking coincidental roughing penalties. The physicality continued into the second period, with the Raiders and Broncos picking up unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and fighting majors.

Swift Current’s Arthur Miller scored the lone goal of the middle frame to put his team up 2-1. P.A.’s power play paid off once more at the half-way point of the third as Curtis Miske put away a Simon Stransky rebound to tie the score 2-2.

In the last minute of play in the third period Broncos forward Lane Pederson was given a double-minor penalty for boarding. Martin capitalized on the opportunity, scoring his sixth goal, and second game-winning goal, of the season.

The Raiders’ next game is on Friday, Feb. 3 when they take on the Red Deer Rebels at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
