Unpaid parking tickets on the rise

0

Even though roughly 80 per cent of all parking tickets issued in 2016 were paid at the early discount payment stage, the amount of outstanding fees owed to the City of Prince Albert is on the rise.

As of the end of 2015, the city faced $1,386,715 in unpaid parking tickets. Although bylaw officers towed 68 vehicles in 2016 due to unpaid fees, that number still increased to $1,404,919 by the end of the year.

So far, 18 vehicles have been towed by the city for unpaid parking fees in 2017. Of those 18, 11 have been released after the owners paid all their fines. At this pace, the city will double the amount of vehicles towed from last year.

In previous years, the city has started towing vehicles that had more than $3,000 in unpaid fees. This year, bylaw officers will begin looking for vehicles with lower outstanding amounts.
