Tim Leonard named Mintos head coach

A familiar face will be back behind the bench for the Prince Albert Mintos next season.

The Saskatchewan Male Under-18 AAA Hockey League club announced on Friday afternoon that Tim Leonard is back with the program and will be their head coach for the 2021-22 campaign.

“It’s really exciting to have Tim back with us as his resume and history with the team speaks for itself,” Mintos team manager Kalen Wright said on Friday. “He already has a relationship with a few of the kids on the roster as well, as he’s coached them at different levels.

“There was a connection right away once he applied and it became clear right away that he was going to be the choice.”

Leonard, who was unavailable for comment on Friday, will be returning for his third head coaching stint with the Mintos.

His first tenure with the team, which saw him win a Telus Cup in 2006 and 2007 along with league titles in 2006, 2007 and 2011, lasted 10 seasons before he joined the Prince Albert Raiders as an assistant coach in 2012.

He returned to the Mintos prior to the start of the 2014-15 season and was with the club until January 2016.

Leonard, who will be replacing Danton Danielson, spent the last two years with the Beardy’s Blackhawks U18 AA program and the Parkland Elks U18 AA team.
