Sask. Rivers Dragons fall to Springboks 29-0, prepare for weekend match against Lashburn

The young Prince Albert Saskatchewan Rivers Dragons faced an older Saskatoon Springboks squad on Wednesday night in Saskatoon, falling by a 29-0 score.

It was the first time this year PA were unable to make it onto the scoreboard. With the loss the Dragons now have a 2-2-1 record.

“We started off decently strong. We were in their end for at least the first five minutes and then we just started to make some sloppy mistakes and took a few penalties and then by halftime the score was 12-0 for the Springboks. We were just defending for a lot of the first half,” said Dragons coach Justin Derkach, adding that the second half saw “more of the same.”

“We would have a really good play and then we would follow it up with a mistake or a turnover and kind of just give the ball back.”

Derkach said the errors can be chalked up to a lack of experience. He expects the mistakes to dry up once the team has more games under its collective belts.
