The 2018 Senators Cup hockey tournament is now underway in Prince Albert at the city’s Art Hauser Centre.
Games started at 12 noon on Friday and will continue until 7 p.m. on Sunday with the tournament’s final game.
To mark the beginning of the tournament, team captains from the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Stars and the Norway House Bruins participated in a ceremonial puck drop ahead of their 6 p.m. game on Friday evening.
The captains were joined by elders, chiefs, vice chiefs, senators and chiefs of police for the puck drop.
As of 7 p.m. on Friday, Norway House, Stanley Mission and Opaskwayak Cree Nation had all won their opening games of the three-day tournament.
Games on Saturday begin at 11 a.m. and continue on to 8 p.m. On Sunday, games start at 10 a.m. Semifinals are slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., while the final game is set for Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
The Ochapowace Thunder are 2017’s defending champions; they’ll be looking to defend their title this year.
