The first trip to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts proved to be a memorable one for Robyn Silvernagle’s rink from North Battleford.

The squad, which includes Prince Albert’s Kara Thevenot at lead, finished in third place after dropping an 9-7 affair to Ontario’s Rachel Homan in the semifinal game Sunday in Sydney, N.S.

A four-ender by Homan in the sixth end proved to be the turning point of the match, but Silvernagle kept the pressure on the three-time Scotties champion with a three-ender in the seventh and two more points in the ninth.

The Saskatchewan champions, which also includes Stefanie Lawton at third and Jesse Hunkin at second, finished second in the round-robin with an 8-3 record and earned a berth in Saturday’s 1 vs. 2 Page playoff game.

Alberta’s Chelsea Carey uncorked a four-ender in the seventh end to pick up an 11-7 triumph and earn a spot in Sunday’s final against Homan.

This marks the first time Saskatchewan has made the playoffs at the Scotties since Lawton skipped her Saskatoon rink to a fourth place result at the 2015 event in Moose Jaw.
