Search parties are still trying to find a man who disappeared into a body of water by Stony Rapids last week, apparently while fleeing from the RCMP.

Family and friends on Facebook have identified the man as Ryan David Donard of Stony Rapids.

Police say he has likely drowned. According to the RCMP, he attempted to evade officers on foot after they responded to a complaint at a residence early Saturday morning. He ended up in a body of water and “disappeared beneath the surface.” Police were unable to locate him.

The RCMP called for an independent investigation into the incident, and the Prince Albert Police Service was appointed to conduct it. The service is not releasing details about the investigation, but says it will be “comprehensive” and “will include all details that led up to this event.”

According a Prince Albert Police Service press release, “specialty teams” are leading the search for Donard. According to police, the teams have not yet reported any success in finding him.

But family and friends are already mourning their loved one online.

“Sometimes we have the luck of meeting a shining star here on Earth. Now, your light shines down on us from the heavens above,” Stacey Donard posted on Facebook. “You will always be loved. RIP cousin Ryan David Donard.”
