Prince Albert residents will soon have more reliable power thanks to a $30 million project to rebuild a transmission line near the city.

The line is a backup to the main one, which provides power to Prince Albert and surrounding areas.

“This line is made of decades-old wooden structures that have simply reached the end of their expected lifespan,” said SaskPower Vice-President of Transmission and Industrial Services, Kory Hayko.

They’re replacing it with a steel structure for a more reliable power source.

“For example, if a storm impacts the main line and causes an outage, we will know we can rely on this line to reroute power and get the lights back on as quickly as possible,” said Hayko.

SaskPower said the line could be in service by the spring of 2020.
