Local partnership looking to restart annual parade
A pair of local business groups have announced plans to bring back a beloved Prince Albert tradition.
The Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District (PADBID) and the Gateway Mall have partnered together to try and revive the annual Santa Clause parade.
It’s been several years since the last parade, and Gateway Mall marketing coordinator Donna Hordyski said it was about time someone brought it back.
“It’s been a long time. Santa hasn’t been around and people need to known that he hasn’t forgotten about Prince Albert,” she chuckled.
This year’s parade is scheduled to run on Nov. 26. The two groups are hoping to get at least 20 entries in this years event, and are confident they’ll be able to do it. The biggest issue the face in restarting it is one they can’t control: the weather.
“I think the weather could be a deterrent, but I’m really going to stay optimistic and say that the city of Prince Albert is going to step forward and we’re going to have a fantastic parade,” Hordyski said.
Although popular for many years, Gateway Mall ended its association with the event do to a staffing shortage. PADBID continued running the parade for a few more years before it officially ended more than five years ago.
