Prince Albert’s minor football association opened its registration to interested parents Friday, announcing via its website that online pre-registration is open for all of its spring programs.

Those programs include indoor flag football, the little tykes program, bantam six-man football and peewee six-man football.

PA Minor Football board member Taras Kachkowski emphasized a few points that he wants interested parents to remember, whether they’re considering signing up their kids or they’ve already decided to do so.

Except for cleats and a water bottle, the association provides equipment for the duration of a season, he said.

“There is a deposit that they have to give us, but once the season is over, they give us back their kid’s equipment and we return the deposit to them.”

For that reason, he said it’s a good, economical option for parents.

Kachkowski, who also coaches teams, underscored how quickly registration spots fill up in the Little Tykes Train Hard program, which is for kids aged four to nine years old. “Get your online application in early.”

He pointed out that girls are welcome to join, too, that football isn’t just for boys. “Every year we get a few girls. Girls are usually among our best players. We’re consistently trying to get them more involved.”

As for coaching, Kachkowski said anyone looking to volunteer their time to coach part of a team is welcome to get in contact with the association. It has a certification process which the volunteer coach would be expected to obtain in his/her first year of joining, he said.

As more coaches join, there’s the added benefit of possible program or team expansion, too.

The following programs are available for registration:

– Little Tykes, for ages four to nine and divided into three age groups

– Indoor Flag Football, for ages eight to 10

– Peewee, for ages 11 to 12 and played as six-man football in the spring

– Bantam, for ages 13 to 14 and played as six-man football in the spring

Kachkowski said registration for fall football programs will be available in the next few weeks.

He encouraged interested parents to check out the association’s website for full registration information. That’s at www.pariverriders.com.
