RCMP seize over half a kilogram of cocaine

The RCMP intercepted over 600 grams of cocaine during a routine traffic stop near Maidstone last Wednesday.

According to a media release issued Monday evening, the RCMP Roving Traffic Unit was working on Highway 16 in the Maidstone area last week when they pulled over a vehicle headed east for a routine traffic stop.

During the traffic stop, the RCMP officer suspected that there were drugs in the vehicle.

The driver, who was the only one in the vehicle, was detained for a drug investigation.

A search of the vehicle turned up about 261 individual bags of powdered cocaine and about 435 individual bags of crack cocaine.

The total weight of the seized cocaine was about 617 grams.

The driver, Mark Richard Adlington, a 27-year-old from Edmonton, was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

He was released from custody and is due for a first court appearance in Lloydminster on Tues, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.

Maidstone is located about 52 km southeast of Lloydminster along Yellowhead Highway, also known as Highway 16.
