Big River RCMP have arrested two people in connection with a rural property theft and armed pursuit that occurred early Friday morning.

No charges have yet been laid, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Shortly after 6 a.m. on May 25, RCMP released a statement asking for the public’s help in finding the driver of a badly damaged black pickup truck that was involved in a chase with police that morning. Police reported that the vehicle had a damaged rear tailgate and drivers side taillight, along with a smashed rear window. They also advised residents not to approach the suspects.

Later that morning at 9:55 a.m., RCMP released a second statement after an investigation revealed that two suspects used the truck during a robbery on a rural property 3 km south of Debden. Police reported that two long-barrel firearms were stolen, and that the property owner chased the suspects in his own vehicle after discovering them. The property owner stopped the chase after several shots were fired at him from the vehicle.

Big River RCMP were able to locate the suspects, but were unable to safely stop the vehicle and lost contact with it during the pursuit.

Police say further updates will be available if and when they lay charges.
