Police have arrested a 31-year-old Sandy Bay man following an investigation into the death of 33-year-old Darnell Bear on Feb. 25.

Thomas Johnny Bernard Ross has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. Ross made his first court appearance in Pelican Narrows Thursday afternoon.

Paramedics were called to a residence in Sandy Bay just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 25, where they provided medical care to an unresponsive male later identified as Darnell Bear. They transported Bear to a local health centre, where he was pronounced dead after emergency lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. Bear’s family has been notified of his death.

Investigators from the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit arrested Ross without incident. Officers from Sandy Bay RCMP, Pelican Narrows RCMP, and the Prince Albert and Tisdale Forensic Identification Services also assisted in the investigation.
